Slab Construction in Kandy

Ground slabs and suspended floor slabs, priced from the drawing, the thickness, the steel, and how concrete will actually reach the site.

A slab is not a single product

People ask for the price of a slab as if it were a sheet of material sold by the square foot. On a house, a slab is concrete, steel, formwork or ground preparation, labour, and the beams or edges that belong to it. A ground slab on fill is a different piece of work from a suspended slab over a living space.

KPB prices slab work from those facts. A number given without thickness, concrete grade, reinforcement, and a sketch of the spans is a guess, and it should be treated as one.

What has to be agreed before the pour

The useful checklist is short. Which floor is it? What is the area and the thickness? Where are the beams, and are toilet or balcony drops required? What steel is specified? How will ready-mix or site concrete get to the slab — along a lane, up a slope, or by pump?

In and around Kandy, access is often the item that changes the method. A slab beside a narrow road cannot be planned the same way as a slab with a mixer parked at the foundation. That belongs in the quotation.

After the concrete is placed

Formwork for a suspended slab stays until the concrete can carry itself, for the period the structural drawing or the engineer requires. Curing — keeping the concrete from drying out too fast — is part of placing a slab, especially in warm weather.

If you only need this portion of the build, ask for a slab estimate and send the drawing. If the drawing is not ready, a consultation can list what the price depends on before anyone commits to a date.
